Thelma Ayre Art Ludlow

Artist Profile..

My paintings cover a wide range of subject matter, from semi-abstract – figurative – often a combination of both, using literary sources, folklore and music. Inspirations derived from memories and imagination.

Formerly trained in commercial art, I illustrated children’s books, magazines and fashion advertisements. I still retain my interest in using human figure in my compositions.

Later I studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art, under the distinguished tutorship of the late David Donaldson, late James Robertson and Barbara Rae R.A.

Their influence remains with me today, as does the legacy of the landscape of Scotland, the ‘Scottish Colourists’, ‘The Light’ and Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s incredible building where I had the privilege of attending every day for four years.
